What is a postpartum doula?
According to the American Pregnancy Association a postpartum doula is a hired professional that provides evidenced based information on things such as infant feeding, emotional and physical recovery from birth, mother–baby bonding, infant soothing, and basic newborn care.
Whether a mother has a vaginal birth or a ceserean section and whether it is a first baby or second or third, etc. the transition to having a new baby in the household can be difficult.
So what kind of services can I provide for you as a postpartum doula?
Help with the emotional and physical recovery after birth
Light housekeeping so that mom does not feel so overwhelmed
Assistance with newborn care such as diapering, bathing, feeding and comforting
Light meal preparation
Baby soothing techniques
Referrals to local resources such as parenting classes, pediatricians, lactation support and support groups
